GM Announces Second EV to be Built at Michigan Plant
March 22, 2019 – General Motors announced that it will build a second electric vehicle for Chevrolet in addition to the Chevy Bolt EV. GM would not confirm the type of vehicle but it is widely expected to be a larger crossover SUV.
The new EV will share many systems with the Bolt. “This new Chevrolet electric vehicle is another positive step toward our commitment to an all-electric future,” GM CEO Mary Barra said during the announcement.
To produce the new EV, GM said it will invest $300 million in its Orion Township, Michigan, factory where the Bolt is built. Barra said that the new terms of the U.S./Mexico/Canada trade agreement led to the decision to build it in the U.S.
