TESLA 2 REPLACED BY ROBOTAXIS

By Éric Descarries

According to the Reuters news agency, American automaker Tesla is reconsidering its idea of producing a small, affordable sedan costing less than US$25,000. It was intended to fit between the Model 3 and Model Y in the Tesla lineup. The car, codenamed Redwood, was due to arrive in 2025. Tesla planned to produce over 500,000 units.

But since then, the wind has changed. Tesla has recently experienced financial setbacks, as well as competition from Chinese manufacturer BYD breathing down its neck (especially in China). Tesla’s boss Elon Musk recently held a conference for investors, during which he avoided the subject of the “Tesla 2” project. However, his engineers and technicians are continuing to work on an autonomous vehicle based on one of Musk’s dearest ideas, the “robotaxi,” leading experts to suggest that the “Tesla 2″ will be replaced by these cabs of the future.
