DRASTIC REDUCTION IN THE ROULEZ VERT PROGRAM

By Anne Bourgoin

The provincial Roulez vert program will be drastically reduced in 2025 before disappearing in 2027, announced Éric Girard, the Québec Minister of Finance. In 2025, maximum assistance will drop from $7,000 to $4,000 for electric vehicles, and from $5,000 to $2,000 for hybrids, then to $2,000 and $1,000 respectively in 2026. The reduction also affects used vehicles. In 2027, only the subsidy for charging stations will remain. According to the Minister, there are other, more effective measures than incentives for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The Québec government believes that the electric vehicle market is now well on track. According to S&P Global, zero-emission vehicles accounted for 23% of market share in the third quarter of 2023.

“Over the next few years, the price of electric vehicles [will] drop, and by 2027, 2028 and 2029, we could be at parity with combustion models,” Québec Environment Minister Benoît Charette told a press scrum.
