FORD AND TESLA SUPERCHARGERS: A FIRST IN CANADA AND THE UNITED STATES

By Anne Bourgoin

For the first time in North America, Tesla Superchargers are accessible to non-Tesla vehicles. Since February 29, customers of the F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E have been the main beneficiaries.

A study by Cox Automotive shows that the lack of charging stations is the second-biggest obstacle, after price, for potential buyers of electric vehicles (EVs). To facilitate this switch to electric, Ford is offering the North American Charging Standard (NACS) charging adapter free of charge to BlueOval network customers until June 30, doubling their access to fast charging.

With more than 126,000 charging stations and 28,000 fast-charging stations, BlueOval makes charging easy, while more than 80% of Ford EV owners charge at home. “Starting today [February 29], Ford EV customers will have access to more than 15,000 Tesla Superchargers in the United States and Canada […]. This decision […] is an essential part of our growth as an electric vehicle brand,” said Jim Farley, President and CEO, Ford Motor Company.
