CIRCUIT ÉLECTRIQUE LAUNCHES STAND-ALONE FAST-CHARGING STATION

By Anne Bourgoin

Circuit électrique by Hydro-Québec, which has more than 5,100 public charging stations throughout the province, has teamed up with YULtek, a young local company. The result? A self-powered fast-charging station that is already being tested for a year in Laval.

Identical to the Circuit électrique’s fast-charging models, FLO’s 50 kW fast-charging station is not connected to the Hydro-Québec grid. It draws its power from a number of second-life automotive batteries. Together, these form a storage system and are recharged by solar panels of up to 16 kW.

If the experiment proves successful, it will be installed on Route 389, where it will enable electric vehicles to travel as far as Fermont. “We have to make sure that the whole of Québec is accessible, by relying in particular on innovative solutions that will enable us to offer charging in remote regions. This new test bed is an important step towards achieving this goal,” said France Lampron, Director of Mobility and Head of the Electric Circuit at Hydro-Québec.
