VINFAST UNVEILS ITS PICKUP

By Éric Descarries

Knowing full well that to conquer North American consumers it would need at least one pickup truck in its line-up, new Vietnamese manufacturer VinFast decided to unveil its prototype of such a vehicle at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) earlier this year, naming it the Wild.

Obviously, it’s an all-electric pickup truck, as VinFast has chosen the mid-size pickup segment to embark on this new adventure. The Wild, which may well be built at the company’s forthcoming plant in North Carolina, boasts a unique feature (formerly exploited by Chevrolet with its Avalanche), namely a removable partition between the passenger compartment and the bed, increasing the latter from five to eight feet in length.

However, VinFast executives made no official announcement (they didn’t even mention the power of the engines and batteries), confining themselves to remarks about its dimensions, which are similar to those of a Ford Ranger.
