Volkswagen Group was proud to announce this week that construction of the site for its PowerCo SE battery plant in St. Thomas, Ontario, has been completed. The site of this mega-plant is now ready to receive the builders who will start work in early 2024. According to Sebastian Wolfe, Director of Operations at PowerCo SE, the first stage of the St. Thomas mega-plant, which will produce battery cells for North America, is now complete.
The plant is expected to be PowerCo SE’s largest, with an annual production capacity of 90 GWh when operating at full capacity. VW plans to invest up to CAD 7 billion in the plant, which will provide direct employment for 3,000 skilled workers, as well as thousands of indirect jobs.
