VinFast will begin delivering its first VF8 SUVs to Canadian consumers in June. The Vietnamese EV automaker claims to have received all the necessary certifications to sell its SUV in the country.
Manufactured at VinFast’s assembly complex in Hai Phong, Vietnam, the 781 electric vehicles arrived at the Port of Nanaimo, B.C. on May 17. The shipment of 1,879 vehicles destined for North America left Vietnam on April 16. The vessel stopped in California on May 12 to unload 1,098 VF8s on U.S. soil before continuing on to Canada.
With a starting price of $53,600, the VinFast VF8 offers between 354 and 425 kilometres of electric range depending on the version, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. VinFast is expected to announce the cost of shipping by May 31.
With this first delivery to the continental U.S., “VinFast has taken another important step in its mission to promote the global electrification revolution,” said Nguyen Thi Van Anh, CEO of VinFast North America. “I believe that with VinFast’s continued efforts and serious and methodical business strategy, VinFast will soon gain the trust and support of Canadian customers.”
