GM HIRES MIKE ABBOTT FROM APPLE CLOUD SERVICES

By Éric Descarries

The American giant General Motors has just announced the hiring of Mike Abbott, vice-president of Apple’s Cloud Services, to lead its programming team. Reporting directly to GM President Mary Barra, Abbott will be responsible for reorganizing the programming team with a focus on digital information technologies defined for vehicle operations systems.

This news comes after the automaker announced that its upcoming electric vehicles would not be available with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, as GM is more interested in creating its own programming solutions developed with Google Inc, including its new Ultifi platform. Abbott has additional experience from Twitter, Palm and Microsoft.
