MITSUBISHI BACK IN THE ELECTRIC BUSINESS

By Éric Descarries

A few days ago, Japanese carmaker Mitsubishi announced the launch of some 16 new vehicles over the next five years, nine of which will be electric (remember that Mitsubishi has already marketed a small electric car in Canada, the i-MIEV). One of them is expected to be a pickup truck. This major manufacturer plans to electrify some 50% of its vehicles by 2030 and 100% by 2035. Electrifying in this case means building hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric vehicles. Some such vehicles are already being built in Europe by Mitsubishi in alliance with its partner Renault. As for the pickup truck, Mitsubishi has not revealed any details, but its other partner, Nissan, has already hinted that it will eventually have an electric pickup truck and that the North American market is being considered. The Mitsubishi pickup could be a version of this.
