MERCEDES BENZ AND VOLKSWAGEN SIGN EV BATTERY DEAL WITH CANADA

Lately in August, Mercedes-Benz Group and Volkswagen Group signed deals with the Canadian government in order to be able to get Canada’s important battery materials, namely lithium, cobalt, nickel and graphite, raw materials essential to car makers when shifting their production to electric vehicles.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by Markus Schaefer, chief technology officer at Mercedes-Benz, and (outgoing) Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess, with François-Philippe Champagne, federal Minister of innovation, science and industry focusing on further exploring the opportunities in Canada’s raw materials and processing sectors. This important agreement will bring the German automotive industry into the Canadian scene.
