NHTSA AUTHORIZES EINRIDE TO RUN ITS AUTONOMOUS POD TRUCKS ON AMERICAN ROADS

The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) authorizes the company Einride to test its vehicles on American soil using public roads. Until this decision, testing was limited to private segments. The Swedish autonomous truck startup will begin its pilot project in the state of Tennessee as early as the third quarter of 2022. The program in conjunction with GE Appliances will allow the company to demonstrate the capabilities of its Pod truck, built without the traditional front cab. The NHTSA approval is a key moment for Einride as it looks to expand its presence in the U.S. while already testing its vehicles in Europe since 2019.

“For us, it’s about scaling up from here, Einride CEO Robert Falck told Automotive News. The U.S. is the most competitive market in the world, and transportation is the backbone of that economy.”
