TESLA LEADS THE WAY IN NEW U.S. EV REGISTRATIONS

According to an Experian report published by Automotive News, the number of electric vehicle registrations in the US nearly doubled for the first quarter of 2021, compared to the same period last year. This 95% increase represents a total of 133,509 new EVs. Tesla leads the way with nearly 92,000 units. The Model Y accounts for more than half of the units sold (53,000) while the Model 3 comes in second with 35,500. Elon Musk’s company reiterates its position among luxury brands behind BMW, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz. In third position comes Chevrolet with the Bolt EV, followed by Ford and its new Mustang Mach-E and finally Nissan with the Leaf. The state of California alone represents more than one-third of registrations (38%), down 7% from the first quarter of 2020.
