Stellantis confirms electric Ram

As expected after Ford unveiled its electric F-150 and GM announced its electric Chevy Silverado (and, more recently, GMC Sierra), it was Stellantis’ turn to announce a battery-electric version of its Ram 1500 pickup to arrive in 2024, an announcement that was included during its EV Day press conference. Yet, the automaker already released a teaser image of the future battery-electric Ram 1500 showing a sleek silhouette with a low rake windshield, a full-width front LED light bar and a short bed. Stellantis also confirmed it is working on a body-on-frame EV platform called the “STLA Frame” with some 800 kilometers of range. Power will come from the automaker’s new electric drive module (EDM) motor family. This will combine the motor, gearbox and inverter into one single housing. According to Stellantis, there will be three EDM motors for front-drive, rear-drive, all-wheel drive and 4×4. Since Ram also announced that it will offer fully electric powertrains in most of its vehicles by 2025 and across all models by 2030, this could mean a battery-electric Ram 2500/3500 may eventually arrive along with electric Ram Promaster utility vans.
