All-Electric Ford Mustang Cobra Jet Sets New World Record

According to the DragZine website, Funny Car driver Bob Tasca III, running mostly Ford vehicles in the sport of drag racing, beat his own previous mark for full-bodied electric racecars at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio early in July. Tasca was behind the wheel of the all-electric Mustang Cobra Jet 1400. This racer who makes his living behind the wheel of an 11,000 horsepower, supercharged, nitro-burning internal combustion engine drove the one-of-a-kind machine to an 8.12 second elapsed time at 171.97 mph.

The Cobra Jet 1400 uses inverters combined to a pair of dual-stack Cascadia Motion motors that spin up to 10,000 RPM. These motors operate at 800 volts up to 700 amps and deliver up to 350kW each. All that power is managed through a custom control system developed jointly by AEM EV and Ford Performance. «This is the future whether we like it or not » said a spectator in the stands!
