VW ID.3 Reservations Crash Site, Exceed 10,000
Volkswagen offered pre-booking for the first time and they were not disappointed. More than 10,000 reservations for the new all-electric ID.3 1ST hatchback were made in the first 24 hours. Reservations required a deposit of €1,000 (approx. $1,500). Some users experienced delays and interruptions due to a large number of orders overloading the IT system.
The ID.3 1ST is a special-edition with production limited to 30,000 vehicles. It has a range of up to 420 kilometres (WLTP). It is the first model using VW’s Modular Electric Drive Toolkit (MEB). The ID.3 comes with 2,000 kWh of free public charging at Ionity fast charging stations throughout Europe.
The pre-booking offered by VW echoes the experience of Tesla when it started taking $1,000 reservations for its Model 3 in 2016.
