BYD Delivers First Electric Refuse Truck

BYD, a Chinese vehicle manufacturer, delivered a BYD 8R Class 8 Automated Side Loader (ASL) all-electric collection truck to Waste Resources in Carson, CA.

It’s the first refuse truck put into service for residential collection operation in Southern California, according to BYD. The truck uses a purpose-designed electric propulsion system.

Advantages of electric refuse trucks include zero-emission, silent powertrain, less vibration, easier to maintain, and more cost effective to operate, according to the company.
