EV EDUCATION, A CATALYST FOR THE ELECTRIFICATION OF TRANSPORTATION IN CANADA
By Isabelle Havasy
A recent Abacus Data survey commissioned by Electric Mobility Canada (EMC) has highlighted the crucial role played by education in changing Canadians’ perception of zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs).
While only 2% of Canadians currently drive an electric vehicle (EV) or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), the survey revealed that increased knowledge on topics such as government rebates, EV range and the number of public chargers can significantly influence purchase decisions. Initially, 43% of non-EV owners were inclined to choose an EV as their next vehicle, a figure that increased to over 63% after participants received more information on these topics during the survey.
Just 13% of Canadians feel they have a good understanding of EVs, underlining the need for greater educational efforts. MEC is committed to raising awareness of the benefits of EVs in the fight against climate change and air pollution.
