11 MILLIONTH VEHICLE TO CELEBRATE 60 YEARS OF TOYOTA IN CANADA
The cross-Canada tour, commemorating Toyota’s 60th anniversary, made a special stop at the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada (TMMC) plant in Cambridge to celebrate the production of its 11 millionth vehicle. The white Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition joined the convoy, which will end its journey in Victoria, British Columbia. This milestone, a testament to the plant’s evolution, underscores TMMC’s role in the national automotive industry.
In its first year of operation, the Cambridge facility manufactured just 153 Corollas. Thirty-six years later, annual production now exceeds 500,000 units. “Today, we are Canada’s largest automaker, building more than half a million Toyota and Lexus vehicles each year for the North American market,” says TMMC President Frank Voss.
The “Kanreki” tour, inspired by the Japanese tradition of rebirth, will travel 9,000 km across Canada. According to Stephen Beatty, Toyota Canada’s Corporate Secretary, this anniversary is “An opportunity to reflect on life, take stock of the present and prepare for the future,” while paying tribute to the employees, customers and communities who have shaped the brand’s history in Canada.
