NEW CANADIAN PROGRAM TO LOWER ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING COSTS
By Noëllise Turgeon
A new pilot program, launched in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, could enable drivers of electric vehicles (EVs) to slash their charging costs by up to 70 %. The project, run by Optiwatt and The Atmospheric Fund, aims to reduce pressure on the grid due to increased EV adoption.
Local participants will save an average of $388 a year by joining this free program via an app. The program automates EV charging during the hours when rates are lowest, offering substantial savings. The initiative is expected to increase EV adoption and support a smoother transition to green energy, while helping utilities manage energy demand.
The program is part of a study conducted by Optiwatt, North America’s largest telematics-based home energy analysis platform, in collaboration with Toronto’s The Atmospheric Fund (TAF).
