CAR HARM: EVs ARE NO MIRACLE SOLUTION

By Anne Bourgoin

A British study shows that electric vehicles will not solve the serious problems associated with car use. According to the study report, car-related harms include traffic-related deaths, air pollution that leads to circulatory and heart disease, drunk driving, road rage shootings, carbon monoxide poisoning and more.

“The electric car, a behemoth of the energy transition, fails to solve the majority of harms, including accidents, sedentary commutes, inequalities and cities designed more for cars than people,” it is stressed.

And on the pollution side, the authors add that although their exhausts don’t pump out carbon monoxide, they are often heavier than their internal combustion counterparts, which means finer particle pollution from tires on freeways.
