PARKLAND TO SET UP 2,000 FAST CHARGERS THANKS TO CIB-BIC LOAN

By Éric Descarries

Parkland Corporation, Canada’s largest independent oil company headquartered in Montréal, is set to expand its network of electric vehicle chargers thanks to a $210 million loan from the Infrastructure Bank of Canada. Parkland will establish 2,000 new charging points in some 400 locations across Canada.

Currently a petroleum distributor and retailer, Parkland is diversifying its operations by installing these charging stations over the next four years. Parkland began its ultra-fast charging network in June 2021, with around 100 connections at 25 locations in British Columbia and Alberta. In 2022, Parkland announced a $6.8 million investment from the governments of Canada and British Columbia to reach 50 locations, with each station having two to four charging points.

Today, Parkland has 37 charging points installed in locations including restaurants, service outlets, convenience stores and restrooms, all well lit, and the company estimates it will be operating around 50 by early 2024.
