KIA TO USE RECYCLED PLASTIC RECOVERED FROM THE PACIFIC OCEAN
By Anne Bourgoin
The Ocean Cleanup, Kia’s global partner, has recovered a record 55 tons of plastic from the Pacific Ocean. Some of the recycled plastic will be used by Kia in its new electric vehicle models. This action follows Kia’s commitment to providing green mobility solutions that have a measurable impact on sustainable development on a large scale.
Since 2022, Kia has implemented more than 30 projects, including the EV9. Recycled waste, including fishing nets recovered from the ocean, was used to create the vehicle’s floor mats. The EV9’s components were made from recycled plastic and eco-friendly bio-based materials, for a total of around 34 kilos per vehicle. ” Such initiatives are perfectly aligned with Kia’s transition to position itself as a provider of sustainable mobility solutions. In our Plan S strategy, we are responding to the needs of our customers and the protection of our environment by acting as a responsible corporate citizen,” said Charles Ryu, Senior Vice President and Head of Global Brand & CX, Kia Corp.
