A magnet-free electric motor from MAHLE
As we speak, MAHLE is developing a new kind of magnet-free electric motor that should not require any rare earth elements. According to the German manufacturer, this not only makes production more environmentally compatible, but it also carries along advantages as far as costs and resource security are concerned. The main feature of this type of new motor is the inductive and thus contactless power transmission. This allows the motor to operate wear-free and particularly efficiently at high speeds. Always according to MAHLE, the efficiency would be above 95% at almost all operating points, a level that has, up to now, only been achieved by Formula E racing cars. This new development would be easily scalable, so it can be used in anything from subcompacts through commercial vehicles.
