GM and LG Chem’s new plant in Tennessee
General Motors and LG Chem have recently announced that they would invest some $2.3 billion US in the building of a new plant in Tennessee where GM once had its Spring Hill Assembly plant. This new plant will be owned and operated by Ultium Cells LLC, the GM-LC Chem joint venture. The Ultium plant construction should already be on its way while production is set for the end of 2023 on the 2.8 million square-foot site.
Note that there is another GM Assembly plant close by where the electric Cadillac Lyriq crossover powered by Ultium batteries will be built. Obviously, rumors have begun flying that it would be there that GM would also produce a battery-electric Acura CUV for Honda.
