IS BOMBARDIER RECREATIONAL PRODUCTS TAKING THE AUTOMOTIVE ROUTE?

By Anne Bourgoin

At least, that’s what the company’s patent application for an electric car suggests. Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP) is renowned for its commitment to innovation and electrification.

The patent relates to a door system that would facilitate access to the seats, and includes a pivoting and sliding door that opens outwards. The whole thing would save space. “The purpose of filing a patent application is to protect our ideas and innovations for the short and long term,” clarified BRP spokeswoman Émilie Proulx to the Journal de Québec. Will BRP build electric vehicles? No information has leaked out, but we do know that the manufacturer is prioritizing the electrification of its existing products, although the project has been delayed since 2021.

“BRP stands out for developing its own technology in-house, which allows us to be agile and competitive, but this is complex and takes time,” explained the spokeswoman.
