NEW EV PURCHASE REBATE IN MANITOBA
By Éric Descarries
Finally, the Manitoba provincial government has announced that it will offer a $4,000 rebate on new electric vehicles and a $2,500 one on pre-owned EVs, under its new $25 million Manitoba Electric Vehicle Rebate program. This will make Manitoba the “first province of the Prairies” to offer such a rebate.
However, Manitoba will only become the seventh province in the country to offer such a rebate. Only Ontario, Saskatchewan and Alberta have no such rebates. Therefore, fully electric (battery-powered) vehicles and plug-in hybrids will be eligible, on condition that they have been purchased from a Manitoba dealership, since this offer will only be granted once and to a single owner. A new vehicle should not cost more than $70,000 (manufacturer’s price), while a used vehicle should not be worth more than $70,000 and have less than four years of wear and tear. Vehicles leased under a four-year agreement are also eligible.
The Manitoba rebate is retroactive to buyers who purchase an EV between August 1, 2023, and July 1, 2024.
