MERCEDES-BENZ CREATES A “HYPERHYBRID”
By Éric Descarries
At the recent Chinese Grand Prix, German manufacturer Mercedes-Benz unveiled what could be considered a true “hyper-hybrid” car: the Mercedes-AMG GT S E Performance. This 2025 coupé can accelerate from 0 km to 100 km/h from a standing start in 2.7 seconds.
The car is powered by a 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 combined with the automaker’s performance hybrid electric system, giving it a total of 805 hp! The same combo was previously presented on the AMG SL 63 S E Performance sedan. The new coupé is all-wheel drive with rear-wheel steering and ceramic brakes. The V8 is paired with a nine-speed automatic gearbox, while the 201 hp electric motor is combined with the rear axle, with power coming from a 6.1 kWh battery. The car is capable of a top speed of 199 m/h (320 km/h).
