CANADA SURPASSES CHINA IN BATTERIES
By Éric Descarries
According to research firm BloombergNEF, Canada has overtaken China as the country with the greatest potential to establish a battery supply niche, thanks to its high raw material contents, its integration with the US automotive sector and its more recent involvement in the field. According to BloombergNEF, this would give Canada a significant advantage over other countries as the transition to electrified vehicles gathers pace.
Canada thus dethrones China, which has held this title for the past three years. But Canada was already following this Asian country very closely. It has to be said that the American Inflation Reduction Act played a key role here. The BNEF analysis covered some thirty countries, and also ranked the United States and Germany in third and fourth place, followed by Finland and South Korea, tied for fifth.
