BOSCH ANNOUNCES A HYDROGEN-POWERED COMBUSTION ENGINE
By Éric Descarries
It was at the unique CES (Consumer Electronic Show) held in Las Vegas during the first week of January that German company Bosch finally launched its new subsidiary Bosch Mobility, which will be independent of the parent company.
And Bosch Mobility’s first major announcement was the possible production of its first hydrogen-powered combustion engine. According to Paul Thomas, President of Bosch Mobility Americas, the company he represents believes that hydrogen-powered internal combustion engines share many of the same components as a current diesel engine, which should make them easier to maintain or repair than electric or fuel cell units.
Bosch believes that such a green hydrogen engine would be almost perfectly carbon neutral. The German company plans to present the new engine within the next year.
