NORTHVOLT ATTRACTED TO MONTRÉAL’S SOUTH SHORE

By Anne Bourgoin

Swedish company Northvolt is interested in the land formerly used by Canadian Industries Limited (CIL), according to La Presse. The company wants to build a battery cell factory in North America and is looking at McMasterville, Baie-Comeau and Montréal. The company confirmed that it was considering a North American complex when it announced the construction of a plant in Germany on May 12.

The former CIL land, located between McMasterville and Saint-Basile-le-Grand, would seem to be ideal in terms of location and surface area. Nevertheless, La Presse points out that not only are the various municipalities unaware of this, but a residential real estate project is also being considered by the developer Luc Poirier and his partners. One thing is certain, Quebec is of great interest to Northvolt, according to the documents provided for its recent registration in the Lobbyists Registry.
