MORE LITHIUM FROM QUÉBEC MINES
By Éric Descarries, January 30, 2023
The Federal Minister of Environment Steven Guilbeault has just announced his administration has approved the operations of a new lithium mine in the James Bay region of Northern Quebec. Yet, its promoter will have to meet some 271 conditions to protect wildlife and land and resources for local Cri people.
The James Bay lithium mine belonging to Canadian promoter Galaxy Lithium should be producing lithium for the next twenty years mostly for North American battery and electric vehicle manufacturers. The plant should hire from 160 to 280 employees and start producing the finished product as early as 2024 in a world that could very well require as much as five times more lithium than today.
