POLESTAR AND CYCLIC MATERIALS TEAM UP
By Éric Descarries
According to many specialized publications including Electric Autonomy Canada, Swedish automaker Polestar has recently announced that it had teamed up with a Kingston, Ont.-based recycling firm, Cyclic Materials, to develop a circular production solution for rare-earth magnets. Polestar has thus signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Cyclic Materials resulting in the two companies working together to develop recycled magnets for Polestar vehicles. Such a decision will help coming up with solutions for less mining of new materials compensated by reintegrating pre-existing materials namely neodymium and dysprosium found in Polestar motors, the second largest raw material footprint in the whole vehicle after the battery itself. Polestar’s goal is to ensure all its cars are completely recycled at the end of their life.
