Launch of a national training program for the maintenance and repair of electric vehicles

The CPCPA’s Compétences V É program will be offered elsewhere in Canada this fall.

Montréal, November 10, 2022—NAPA Canada and the Conseil provincial des comités paritaires de l’industrie des services automobiles (CPCPA) have announced a partnership to offer a standardized training program for the maintenance and repair of electric and hybrid vehicles.

The Compétences V É program, developed since 2019 by the CPCPA, will be offered outside of Québec starting this fall as part of NAPA’s NexDrive certification program. Launched last spring, NexDrive allows member shops of the NAPA AUTOPRO and NAPA AutoCare network to obtain the training and equipment required to offer maintenance and repair services adapted to next-generation vehicles.

“We are very proud to partner with NAPA and to contribute to the deployment of a national training program on electric vehicle maintenance that was developed here in Québec and is already recognized as a reference in the industry,” said Charles Gagnon, General Manager of the CPCPA. “Our program has been developed to a very high standard to meet the current and future needs of the industry. It is not tied to any particular vehicle manufacturer and is updated regularly to keep pace with technological developments. It is the only program with a total of 175 hours of training and is supported by a network of certified EV master trainers.”

To date, the program has trained nearly 400 auto mechanics in Québec, and demand continues to grow, especially in other Canadian provinces where this sort of training was not yet available.

“Technician training is one of the main challenges related to the electrification of transportation, since electric vehicle owners want to have a good network of service points to meet their maintenance and repair needs. That’s why a standardized and recognized training program is at the heart of the NexDrive banner’s deployment strategy,” said John O’Dowd, vice president of marketing, NAPA Canada. We are particularly pleased to be partnering with the CPCPA to deliver a leading training program across Canada in both official languages.

Level 1 training has already begun in Ontario and Level 1 and 2 training will begin in British Columbia in early 2023.
