CIB INVESTS IN HYDROGEN CHARGING AND REFUELLING STATIONS

The Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) has announced a $500 million investment to develop charging and hydrogen refuelling stations for zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs). Through partnerships with the private sector, an additional 50,000 charging stations and hydrogen refuelling facilities are expected to be added soon. The Charging and Hydrogen Refuelling Infrastructure Initiative (CHRI) is targeted at large projects that include multiple sites and costs in excess of $10 million.

According to numerous surveys, the lack of public infrastructure is holding back the adoption of ZEVs in Canada. The CIB supports Ottawa’s goal of reassuring consumers and accelerating these purchases.

As of last August, there were approximately 22,000 charging stations and 6 hydrogen refuelling stations across the country.
