New GM BrightDrop EV vans eligible to tax rebate
According to the Canadian Government’s new Medium- and Heavy-Duty Zero-Emission Vehicles (iMHZEV) Program introduced early in July 2022, GM’s new BrightDrop Zevo vans soon to be built at its CAMI plant in Ontario should be eligible to Canada’s new $10,000 tax rebates for battery-electric commercial vehicles. This rebate is meant for organizations and businesses that buy or lease a Class 2B electric van or pick-up truck (vehicles with a weight rating of 8,501 to 10,000 pounds). And the BrightDrop Zevo 400 and Zevo 600 vans fit in right there as will their biggest competitor, the Ford e Transit.
The Medium-and Heavy-Duty Zero-Emission Vehicles (iMHZEV) Program is intended to provide incentives worth approximately 50 percent of the price difference between an electric vehicle and a traditional internal combustion engine vehicle at its purchase. It is backed by a C$550 million taxpayer fund.
