THE 2022 HYUNDAI TUCSON PLUG-IN HYBRID, AN IN-BETWEEN VEHICLE TO CONSIDER
With its 2022 Tucson Plug-In Hybrid, available in Luxury and Ultimate trim levels, Hyundai is offering an interesting alternative to those who are hesitant to commit to full electrification.
Smaller and slightly more fuel-efficient than its larger Santa Fe Plug-In Hybrid sibling (gasoline + electric fuel consumption of 2.9 L/100 km vs. 3.1 L/100 km), the Tucson also gains an additional three kilometres of range to reach a maximum of 53 in hybrid mode. Equipped with standard all-wheel drive, the Tucson PHEV is powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a six-speed automatic transmission. Paired with a front electric motor and a 13.8-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the Tucson’s powertrain achieves a net output of 261 horsepower. The 7.2 kW on-board charger allows the vehicle to be charged at a Level 2 (240 volts) charging station in less than two hours.
