SONY-HONDA ALLIANCE ON EVS

Sony has taken another step in its quest to reach the automotive market by joining forces with fellow Japanese company Honda to develop, produce and market electric vehicles as early as 2025.

The two Japanese companies plan to form a joint venture this year to develop and sell electric vehicles and jointly provide mobility services. Honda will manufacture the first model in its own factories, while Sony will develop a platform for mobility services.

As one of the world’s pioneers of fuel cell vehicles, Honda last year set a goal of 100 percent sales of battery-electric and hydrogen-powered EVs worldwide by 2040. Sony, for its part, has made no secret for several years of its desire to enter the automotive market, to which it already supplies image sensors, audiovisual equipment and other high-tech products.
