Nissan and China’s Envision to create EV production in UK

According to Reuter’s, Nissan will add production of a new electric crossover and build a monster factory with its battery partner Envision AESC at its actual UK plant. The 1-billion-pound ($1.38 billion USD or 16,227,250,000 $ CAD) investment secures the future of Nissan’s plant in Sunderland, England. The battery plant will start by producing 9 gigawatt hours of battery cells, rising to 25 gWh by 2030. China’s Envision AESC will invest 450 million pounds (621,180,000 $ USD or 775,499,900 $ CAD) to build the plant, while the local council will spend 80 million pounds (110,423,440 $ USD or 137,857,760 $ CAD) to provide green energy to power the site.

As for Nissan, it will invest 423 million pounds (583,863,939 $ USD or 728,631,525 $ CAD) in its existing vehicle assembly plant in Sunderland to build a new crossover on the same Renault-Nissan alliance CMF-EV platform. This EV crossover will be called Nissan Ariya and Renault Megane EV. Nissan expects to build 100,000 units a year of the vehicle that is mostly destined to the European market.
