Ford Maverick, it begins as a hybrid

American automaker Ford just unveiled its smallest pick-up truck in many years, the Ford Maverick. Based on a platform it shares with the Escape and Bronco Sport SUVs, the Maverick should be a urban pick-up trucks available at an incredibly low price.

Yet, there is more to say about the Maverick as the base model with front wheel drive is powered by an hybrid-electric supported powerplant. It is a combination of a gasoline-fired four cylindre engine combined to a Ford built electric motor. Together, the units will produce the equivalent of 191 horsepower and 155 ft-lb of torque. The base Maverick will work with a CVT automatic transmission but the more powerful 2.0 litre EcoBoost powered four-wheel drive version will not have electric power support. Yet, its transmission will be a more standard eight-speed automatic.
