Jeep features its electric Wrangler concept at Moab
There really is an electric Jeep Wrangler, but it’s not headed into production soon! At its annual Easter Jeep Safari event set for March 27 to April 4 in Moab, Utah, the off-road-oriented automaker will unveil a few concepts and the star will surely be the all-electric Wrangler, the Magneto.
This unique Jeep was created to evaluate the possibilities of an all-electric Wrangler. The astonishing surprise is that the electric motor is combined to a 6-speed manual transmission. That means the driver will have to use the clutch to select gears. Four Wabesto air-cooled lithium-ion battery packs totaling 70 kwh power the concept SUV. One of them is located where the engine would be while the other is located in the rear cargo area. Two more are on the inside of each frame rail. The 800-volt battery architecture supports Level 1 and Level 2 charging but not Level 3 fast-charging capability.
