Best reasons for Electric Mobility Canada’s to Support the Electrification of Transportation in Canada: Reason #4

GHG emissions from the transport sector may soon become Canada’s #1 source of GHG emissions… ahead of the oil & gas sector.

In 2018 according to Environment Canada*:

  • The oil & gas sector was Canada’s largest source of GHG emissions with 26% of total emissions;
  • The transportation sector was Canada’s second largest source of GHG emissions with 25% of total emissions;

However, between 2017 and 2018, GHG emissions from the transport sector grew 50% faster than GHG emissions from the oil & gas sector. At this rate, it is reasonable to expect that GHG emissions from the transportation sector will soon become the #1 source of GHG emissions in Canada. (Excerpt from our “Case for Canada’s Electric Vehicle Industry & Zero Emissions Legislation” presented on November 25, 2020 to the Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development on Electric Vehicles in the House of Communs
