Amazon orders trucks from Lion

The news is now official, the international on line sales giant Amazon has asked small Quebec electric truck manufacturer Lion from Saint-Jerôme, Quebec to build class 6 and 8 electric delivery trucks, most of them to be used to transport goods between warehouses. At first, according to Marc Bédard, CEO and founder of the company that also produces electric school buses, it should begin by some 500 vehicles per year for the next five years.

Still according to Bédard, Amazon would have an option for 2026 to 2030 on 10% of Lion’s production which means some 2500 vehicles a year. Later, Bédard would like Lion to begin making its own batteries and that would require a new plant to be built in the Laurentians, north of Montreal.
