Ford is considering making its own batteries

Ford CEO Jim Farley recently said that the company was considering making its own electric vehicle batteries.
According to Reuters, this is what Farley said at the virtual Reuters Automotive Summit held on-line in mid-November : “We are discussing (battery) cell manufacturing,” He also added : “I think that’s natural as (EV) volume grows.”

This is a very different response than the ones given by other Ford executives just earlier including by former CEO Jim Hackett in July and product development and purchasing chief Hau Thai-Tang in August.

In an interview with Green Car Reports before the E-Transit electric van recent reveal, Mark Kaufman, Ford’s global director of electrification, said that E-Transit is the start of a new supply system within the company wanting to launch its vertical-integration and apply it to its electric vehicles.
