EV Impact to Power Grid in Norway
Norway is the world leader in EV adoption per capita but this has unintended consequences. The number of electric cars is expected to impact the power grid in two major ways. Overall electricity demand increases and the demand profile changes to accommodate charging in the afternoon and evening.
A study commissioned by Norway’s power regulator found $1.7 billion CAD in upgrades would be required by 2040. They also found that there is a way to limit or eliminate the need for costly upgrades if consumers would schedule charging when demand is low, at night.
