GM Confirms Electric Pickup
GM CEO Mary Barra confirmed plans to build an electric pickup truck during an investor call on Tuesday. The GM product would likely directly compete with Tesla electric pickup and an electric Ford F-150.
The powertrain lineup for both the current the Silverado and Sierra do not contain any electrified options. They were designed with alternative power in mind according to Tim Herrick, the Chevrolet Silverado’s executive chief engineer.
A launch timeframe and further details were not confirmed. An electric Silverado or Sierra may still be a few years away. GM is aligning to make Cadillac the lead electric-car division. Cadillac’s first battery-electric SUV is slated to launch around 2021.
