Sion Solar Electric Vehicle to be Built at Former SAAB Plant in Sweden

German automaker Sono Motors announced last week that it intends to assemble its solar electric vehicle (SEV), the Sion, at a former SAAB automobile plant in Trollhättan, Sweden. SAAB, now defunct, was known to be unconventional in vehicle design and engineering. It appears the plant will continue building unique vehicles with the Sion.

Sono Motors raised more than $600,000 through crowdfunding on Indiegogo in 2016. The Sion has full-surface solar integration that can charge up to 34 km of range. In addition, the regular electric range is 255 km. It is expected that the plant will built approximately 43,000 vehicles per year starting in 2020.
