Tesla Announces Battery Recycling at Gigafactory
Tesla announced that it will open its own battery recycling facility in an environmental impact statement. The new processing center will be located at the company’s Gigafactory in Sparks, Nevada.
The earliest Tesla Model Ses are approaching 7 years old, and the company is receiving returned batteries. The company will process both customer returns and batteries from its own research and development.
According to the company, the new facility will reduce expenses and environmental impact. “The closed-loop battery recycling process at Gigafactory 1 presents a compelling solution to move energy supply away from the fossil-fuel based practice…” the company stated in its environmental report.
