The Electric Circuit – An Important Asset for Quebec

In 2012, Hydro-Québec set up a public charging network for electric vehicles called the Electric Circuit to support the deployment of electric vehicles in Quebec by installing charging throughout the province.

To support the demand, the Electric Circuit has deployed two types of charging terminals:

  • Level 2 terminals (240 volts)
  • DC charging terminals (BRCC to 400 volts)

Hydro-Québec has recently experienced a great deal of criticism for investing and continuing to invest more than $100 million in this network. Critics of this initiative forget that such a network is necessary to facilitate EVs making long journeys. The Electric Circuit supports public EV charging and is an important asset in the energy transition of transport, reducing our dependence on fossil fuels.
