Toyota EV Deployment Accelerates

Toyota plans to launch six battery-electric vehicles over a six-year period from 2020 in response to the increase in global demand, the company’s executives said at a press conference on June 7 in Japan.

The offerings include a compact crossover that Toyota will develop in conjunction with Subaru. The platform, which will be called e-TGNA, will be shared with five other vehicles. Toyota has added its TNGA modular architecture throughout its range of gas vehicles and hybrids. The e-TGNA platform will have an electric motor in the front or rear, depending on the powertrain, or at both locations for full traction.

The other models will include a small car co-developed with Suzuki and Daihatsu, another small crossover, a compact sedan, a minivan, and a medium-sized SUV.
